Small Intro of ISO & Its Standards

ISO : International Organization For Standardization founded in 1946-47 in Geneva Switzerland, to promote the development of international standards and facilitate the exchange of goods and services worldwide. It is composed of member bodies from over 165 national standards bodies. From INDIA, Bureau of Indian standards(BIS) is the accredited member . ISO has launched various series of standards to be adopted worldwide with regular updation time to time.

Small Intro of ISO 9001:2015 (QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM):

Introduce itself as world class quality management system (QMS). Initially there were Five standards (ISO 9001:1994, ISO 9002/9003, ISO 9001:2000 & ISO 9001:2008) in ISO 9000 series, but now all ISO 9000 standards have been merged in single standard that is- ISO 9001:2015 (latest revised version issued on 9th Sept. 2015). In simple manners we can say this is the base of all the standards. It is common & applicable for all type of industries (any kind of manufacturing & service industries).

It is totally QUALITY FOCUSED basis on Leadership with commitments, QMS planning inc. quality policy & objectives, Overall support inc. infra, resources, competence , awareness, Overall operations inc. customer related issues, design & developments, identification & traceability, customer property issues, overall performance evaluation inc. monitoring , measurement , analysis , customer satisfaction, internal quality audit & management review meetings, Overall improvement inc. Non-conformities , corrective & preventive actions and continual improvement etc. We can say this is a complete error proof record management system which proves that the job was done well & within the time limit only, all org. must adopt this QMS to work more better.


This latest revised version of EMS. it is called as Environmental Management System. It was adopted in the year 1996. In the starting it was launched as ISO 14001:1996 than after ISO 14001:2004 and now as ISO 14001:2015, to protect overall environmental issues (internally & externally ). It is totally ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT FOCUSED, basis on :

  • LEADERSHIP as : Leadership and commitment , environmental policy, roles, responsibilities and authorities etc.
  • PLANNING as : actions to address risks and opportunities, complete environmental aspects , environmental objectives and planning to achieve etc.
  • SUPPORT as: resources, competence, awareness, communication and documented information etc.
  • OPERATION as: operational planning & control , emergency preparedness and response etc.
  • PERFORMANCE EVALUATION as : monitoring , measurement , analysis and evaluation , evaluation and compliance, internal audit & management review etc.
  • IMPROVEMENT as: non-conformity and corrective action and continual improvement etc.

The main concept to adopt this system:- we all have some moral responsibilities for our own environment, we all have try to make maximum possible reduction in the consumption of natural resources (like: LPG gas, petroleum, electricity, water, green house-effects and solar energy etc). It makes our surrounding environment clean, green & healthy for more better future of our upcoming generation.


This international standard is launched recently in the year 2018 and completely related to health & safety assurance for all the workers, employees of the organization and as well as for visitors inside. ( Earlier it was in the form of OHSAS 18001:2007 as mixed guidelines ) It is a necessary standard for them, where many people are involved in quantity (in production or service). It is also interrelated activities with respect to EMS. It defines all the available health & safety facilities in the organization & required facilities in the organization during production of services processes. It also defines that an employees is a most important part of an organization. So there should be a system related to their health & safety aspects, to achieve their confidence & satisfaction. A well structured occupational health & safety management system will include: an health and safety policy & objectives, defined duties and responsibilities of employees, have formal communication lines, contractor management, the identification of hazards and their controls, training and competency requirements, audit and review of the management system and work practices, formal notification & reporting procedures, accident reporting and investigation system, rehabilitation program , emergency preparedness & response , Risk Assessment etc.


This is an internationally recognized and recommended hygienic food safety management system. This system is a logical, scientific system that controls food safety related issues during production/handing.HACCP/FSMS is now being adopted worldwide. It works with any type of food production system and with any kind of food. It offers greater assurance of food safety, quality and is less reliant upon end product testing. Making of poor quality food products does not save money. In the long run it is more expensive finding mistakes after they have been made than preventing them in the first place. HACCP /FSMS is designed to ensure that mistakes do not occur. The program, known as hazard analysis and critical control point or HACCP /FSMS focuses on identifying and preventing hazards that could cause food illnesses rather than relying on spot-checks of manufacturing processes and random sampling of finished food products to ensure safety. Traditionally, regulators have depended on spot-checks of manufacturing conditions and random sampling of final products to ensure safe food. It focuses on identifying and preventing hazards form contaminated food. It is based on sound science. It permits more efficient & effective government oversight. Primarily because the record keeping allows investigators to see how well a firm is complying with food safety laws over a period of time, rather than how well it is doing on any given day. It places responsibility for ensuring food safety appropriately on the food manufacturer or distributor and helps food companies to compete more effectively in the domestic & global market. HACCP / FSMS involves seven major & important steps (critical control points) to implement, on which, it is based. Remarks:- ISO 22000:2018 is complete Food Safety Management System, It’s a merged combination of Quality Management System & HACCP.


ISO 27001:2013 is called as- Information Security Management System , that outlines the key processes and approaches a business needs to manage information security risk in a practical & factual level.

ISMS provides total trust and confidence to all customers of any org. As per today’s scenario all customers, business partners and shareholders want to be sure that you’re not putting them or their businesses at risk by not having appropriate safeguards in work place including information and technology etc. Customers want this confidence as well org. / management wants this confidence too, that’s why ISMS certification is only the best way of showing that you have invested and continue to invest to maintain appropriate levels of security based on acknowledged risks. ISMS covers all the information security aspects /risks by setting security check points / SOPs strictly on each and every process of any org. , just to ensure that every information, data etc. totally safe by all means-while working till completion of any project / work order etc. its mandatory in some of sectors, worldwide.
